OMAHA, Neb. --

Omaha firefighters responded to two fires Monday night.

Three people and a dog got out of one fire Monday night near 37th and Spaulding streets, according to Omaha firefighters, while a Carter Lake house collapsed after being engulfed in flames during the night's second fire.

Firefighters are calling the second fire suspicious, Fire Chief Tony Lang said.

It happened near Third and Fort streets.

Firefighters acted on initial reports that someone was trapped in the house, though the structure turned out to be vacant.

A witness who mows lawns in the area saw the flames and ran for help.

The three victims of the first fire told fire officials they were having electrical problems earlier in the evening.

Someone had taken a candle upstairs in the house for additional light.

But the exact cause of the fire hasn't been released.

The upstairs sustained extensive damage.
