A man in his 50s crashed his car along Card Sound Road near Florida City about 2 a.m. Saturday and was thrown through the windshield. He landed in the swampy water about 50 yards from the car, police said.

Firefighters searched for the man without success before bringing in Striker, a dog trained in search and rescue, and his handler, Lt. Scott Mullin.

Striker sniffed out the victim within minutes. The man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, but he was alive, Mullin said.
