WASHINGTON --
A firefighter was injured while battling a fire in D.C. early Monday morning.
The house fire broke out at about 4 a.m. in the 1000 block of Kenyon Avenue in Northwest.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.
Fire officials said that while battling the blaze, a firefighter was injured when something fell on him. They said he suffered minor injuries.
News4's Megan McGrath reported that the fire started on the first-floor of the house and quickly spread.
McGrath said the house where the fire originated was destroyed and two houses on either side of the dwelling were damaged in the fire.
McGrath reported that there may not have been electricity in the house, which may have played a part in the fire.
A neighbor realized that the house had caught fire and began banging on doors to wake people up and alert them to the fire, McGrath reported.
A two-year-old boy was checked for smok inhalation, McGrath said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
