PALATKA, Fla. --
A 5-year-old girl was killed and two younger children were injured in a house fire Sunday night in Palatka.
Police said the parents got out safety, but 3-year-old and 6-month-old girls had to be rescued and were transported to Putnam Medical Center for treatment.
Palatka Police Department Sgt. Brian Hawkins said a neighbor rescued the baby from the fire and firefighters were able to save the 3-year-old. The names of the children were not released.
Firefighters said that fire was jumping from the windows of the single-family brick home and it was filled with smoke when they arrived about midnight.
Investigators said they're searching for the exact cause of the fire, but they said the blaze ignited in the home's kitchen.
Channel 4's Nikki Preede said the mother and father were at the hospital with the children.
