STEUBENVILLE, Ohio --

Fire ripped through a Steubenville home, killing an elderly woman who wasn't able to make it out in time.

It happened Saturday night on the 900 block of Sherman Avenue.

Neighbors said the woman lived there with her son, who is now distraught over the tragedy.

Fire crews speculated the fire may have started in the living room, and said it doesn't appear to be suspicious.

The home was a total loss.

"I wouldn't want to be the fireman that took her out because that's going to be with them for the rest of their lives," said witness Roger Clements.

"Everybody is pretty upset about the fatality. We don't like to have fatalities. It's just something you have to deal with in the fire service," said Gray Nagy of the Steubenville Fire Department.

NEWS9 was told the fire rekindled Sunday morning, but crews said it's now under control and their investigating is ongoing.
