CICERO, Ill. --
One woman was killed and another hospitalized with smoke inhalation from a fire in a home in Cicero on Monday morning.
The fire occurred about 9:30 a.m. at 1304 50th Ave. in the near western suburb.
A woman on the first floor and a woman on the second floor of the home both were taken from the blaze by Cicero firefighters, Cicero twon spokesman Dan Proft said.
The woman from the first floor, who had an unidentified disability, was rescued but died, Proft said. A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said the office was notified of the death but had no specific information on the woman as of 11 a.m.
The second-floor resident was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, suffering from smoke inhalation, Proft said.
The extent of the damage to the home was not immediately known. The fire was out, but crews remained at the scene late Monday morning, according to Proft.
