NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio --
Fire officials said a New Philadelphia couple died and their son was injured in an early morning house fire.
The fast-moving fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Monday on Union Avenue.
Fire crews from Dover, Uhrichsville and Strasburg assisted New Philadelphia in battling the blaze.
John and Nancy Downing, an elderly couple, were killed in the fire. Their son, Tim, suffered serious burns and is now being treated at the Akron Children's Hospital burn unit.
John Downing was a Korean War veteran and was on oxygen, his son, Tom, said. Nancy had to use a wheelchair to get around.
Tom Downing said his brother lives with their parents to help care for them.
He is on a ventilator but is expected to make a full recovery.
Firefighters are still trying to determine what caused the fire. The state fire marshal is handling the investigation.
