PATERSON, N.J.-- It's graduation day for a man whose dream job is to become a Paterson firefighter despite having his left leg amputated below the knee.
Isaac Feliciano will join the ranks of the city's bravest following ceremonies at the Passaic County Public Safety Academy in Wayne this afternoon.
His left leg was amputated below the knee when he was a child, and the city of Paterson had ruled he was not physically capable of doing the job. After six weeks, a state panel reversed the decision back in March.
Isaac has always wanted to be a firefighter, ever since a firefighter saved ihs life when he was three. However, his dream was almost cut short when he lost his leg to Gangrene from meningitis, at the age of six. Last year a doctor recommended him not to join the class because of his prosthetic leg.
We showed you his abilities back on a cold day in January, when he hit the stadium stairs and ran laps effortlessly, still training for the job he had been denied and none of it damaging his determination.
