COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa --
An abandoned warehouse caught fire in Council Bluffs Wednesday night.
Firefighters said they got into the building near 1600 Main Street with the help of a neighbor who used a forklift to bust his way in. They said that without his help, they would have been fighting the fire all night long.
Investigators said they think the fire was started by homeless people.
"Looks like a bunch of transients were staying in this building," said the Council Bluffs Fire Department's Larry Wohlers. "It's full of junk, basically. There was an interior fire, too, rolling to the outside."
Wohler said firefighters were aware there was nothing inside they needed to try to save.
