ORTING, Wash. --

Firefighters took a defensive stance against a house fire near Orting after flames set off ammunition stored in the garage, firefighters said.

Fire destroyed a house and two vehicles in the driveway at a gated development south of Orting.

"Upon our arrival, we did a defensive attack for firefighter safety purposes. As the ammunition was continuing to go off we used a large hose and ground monitors to attack the garage and try to cool that down and stop that ammunition from going off," said Jesse Mitchell of Orting Valley Fire & Rescue.

It wasn't clear how much ammunition was in the garage, but firefighters said a lot of rounds went off.

After the fire was out, investigators cordoned off the house and began inspecting the ruins to determine what caused the fire.

No one was hurt.
