ATLANTA, Ind. --

Two teen boys were seriously injured Thursday morning in a camper fire in far southern Tipton County, just across from the Hamilton County line.

The fire began at about 5 a.m. Witnesses told 6News that the boys, Blaze Langley, 16, and Chris Mooney, 15, were camping near a home when a stove on which they were cooking apparently exploded.

The teens were severely burned and were transported to Indianapolis' Riley Hospital for Children, where Mooney was listed in critical condition late Thursday morning and Langley was listed in serious but stable condition.

"I woke up with flashes and there were loud booms and people beating on the trailer," said Randy Mooney, Chris' brother, who lives nearby. "The only thing I could think of was get out of the house."

Jean Sharp, a family friend, said the boys looked "pretty bad."

"Their skin was peeling off of them. Their hair was singed," Sharp said. "The boys decided to cook hot dogs on the stove that was in the camper. When they went to shut it off, it backfired on them."

The camper was destroyed.
