The Maryland State Marshal is investigating a fatal fire in Huntingtown, Md., that killed a 13-year-old boy. Officials said the fire broke out around 10:40 p.m. Monday at a home in the 2100 block of Stinnett Road. A neighbor discovered the fire and called 911. Officials said when firefighters arrived, they found a male outside the home suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. After the home was searched, a teenager and an adult female were located inside the home. The teenager was transported to the Calvert Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He's been identified as Michael Philbin. The man and the woman were flown to the Washington Hospital Center's burn unit in D.C. where they are listed in critical condition. They have been identified as 55-year-old Kevin Philbin and 52-year-old Karen Philbin. Two Calvert County deputy sheriffs and one firefighter sustained minor cuts and smoke inhalation. Officials said they were treated and released from the hospital. The family's dog was also killed in the blaze. Investigators have determined that the fire started in the living room of the one story, wood framed home and quickly spread through the structure. While investigators have not determined the cause of the fire, officials said there is no evidence of an incendiary device. Firefighters said there was a smoke alarm in the home, but they don't know if it was operational. Damages to the home and contents are estimated at $300,000.
