Wednesday, Pittsburgh Mayor Bob OConnor ordered crews to board up every abandoned building in the city of Pittsburgh.

OConnors spokesman Dick Skrinjar said the issue comes one week after an abandoned row house in Lawrenceville caught fire and endangered neighboring buildings.

The city purchased approximately $6,000 in boarding materials.

Public Works employees began executing the mayors order at 12:30 p.m. in the Spring Hill area.
