Police in Ypsilanti said firefighters battled a blaze that tore through a public housing unit killing three children.
The fire started on a stove top in a kitchen on the ground floor of Paradise Manor, which is located on Michigan Avenue, police said. The children, ages 1, 5, and 6, were in a bedroom above the kitchen and were not able to get out.

Fire officials said an investigation is being conducted to find the cause.
The fire had spread to five other units in the complex. Seventy-five people live in the complex. The city is setting up a fund for the victims displaced from their homes, who are in need of clothes and supplies.
