WASHINGTON --
D.C. fire officials say two people were rescued from a burning building in D.C. early Wednesday morning.
Officials said the fire started about 1 a.m. in the 1800 block of Harvard Street in Northwest, at the Harvard Towers apartments, which houses mostly elderly residents.
Arriving firefighters found flames on the 5th floor of the building, officials said.
Firefighters removed two people from the building, one was a male in his 60s, who was taken to George Washington University Hospital for smoke inhalation.
Officials said he is in stable condition.
Fourteen other people were evaluated on scene, officials said.
D.C. Fire Chief Dennis Reuben has scheduled a 1 p.m. news conference in front of the building.
