Stairway Collapses; Texas Firefighters OK

The fire damaged both floors of the house.

ARLINGTON, Texas --

It was a close call for firefighters as a stairway collapsed while they fought a fire in south Arlington.

No one was injured in the fire, which broke out at the two-story home in the 5700 block of Creekhollow Drive at about 3:30 a.m.

The stairway collapsed while firefighters were on them, but no one was hurt, fire officials said.

Flames and smoke damaged both floors of the home.

Single mother Stephanie Alford and her three children were not home at the time. Firefighters said the victims were spending the night at the home of a family friend in Mansfield.
