WASHINGTON --
Low water pressure hampered firefighters' battle with a four-alarm fire at a condo in Adams Morgan early Monday, officials said.
About 100 firefighters were called to the 2600 block of Adams Mill Road in northwest D.C. early Monday morning to battle a massive condo fire that began at about 1 a.m., officials said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries from falling debris while battling the blaze. No one else was hurt.
News4's Megan McGrath reported that all the residents who live in the building in Adams Morgan were safely evacuated. The residents of more than 30 units were displaced, officials said.
Residents from the buildings on either side of the one that was on fire were evacuated and have been allowed back into their homes.
Fire department spokesman Alan Etter said that because of low water pressure in the area, firefighters were not able to immediately begin fighting the fire. A secondary hose was run several thousand feet to another hydrant on Connecticut Avenue, officials said.
One official said locating a hydrant with proper water pressure cost firefighters about an hour to two hours before they could begin extinguishing the fire.
Officials said pipes in the area were scheduled for replacement as part of a 20-year plan.
Etter said a temporary shelter is being set up at Engine 21 on the 1700 block of Lanier Place, and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced people.
All lanes of Connecticut Avenue have reopened to traffic in both directions after being closed while firefighters battled the blaze. Street closures remain in the area of Calvert Street at 18th Street and Adams Mill Road. D.C. Department of Transportation and police officers continue to direct traffic in the area.
