Missouri Firefighter Involved In Fatal Acident

A Missouri firefighter responding to an incident call in her personal vehicle near Edgar Springs, struck and killed the driver of another car around 12:20 p.m. March 17, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

Penny Besham, 40, a member of the Edgar Springs Volunteer Fire Association, remained hospitalized at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in moderate condition, according to the highway patrol. Melvin M. Yates, 62, was pronounced dead at the center.

Besham was driving a 2004 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck eastbound when she entered the intersection and struck Yates' 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity traveling northbound.
