June 12, 2006
Fairfax County firefighters estimated damages at $400,000.

Fire officials in Fairfax County, Va., say a fire heavily damaged a home in the Fox Mill area of the county and displaced three residents.

Firefighters responded to the house in the 2600 block of Wild Cherry Place about 11 p.m. Sunday and found fire showing from the front door and first-floor windows, officials said.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 40 minutes and officials said the three people who were inside escaped unharmed.

Three firefighters were taken to the Washington Hospital Center burn unit with non-life-threatening injuries and officials said one other firefighter was transported to Reston Hospital for cuts and abrasions.

Damage to the home is estimated at $400,000.

According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire was a discarded rag soaked in linseed oil that was piled onto combustible materials and consequently ignited.
