The FDNY is looking for a cause of the second brush fire in four days on Staten Island.
Huge flames roared across part of the Great Kills section Tuesday night. It's the same area that burned on Saturday. Eyewitness News Reporter Jim Dolan is near the fire scene with the latest.
Two fires in just a few days, both almost certainly intentionally set. People in the neighborhood are dangerously close to the area that burned.
It burned for a couple of hours before the fire department got a handle on it. The flames scorched nearly 10 acres of grass and weeds in the Great Kills Park. None of the surrounding neighborhoods were evacuated, but some people did leave on their own as the wind whipped the flames into a frenzy.
"I looked out the window and oh God, it was so scary ... so we had to evacuate the house and everything," a resident said.
Afraid that the wind would spread the fire, the fire department sent out all the men and equipment it could because there was a fire here just two days ago -- a fire that may well have been intentionally set. The FDNY is now wondering what it has on its hands.
"They are suspicious and are under investigation," a fire official said.
