The severe storms we had Monday night caused flooding in Irondale, Jefferson County. Fire fighters worked through the night to save homes from the gushing water.

It was the lead on NEWS9 Tonight, severe weather was moving through the area. Irondale Fire Chief Andy Davis says, I was actually watching the weather on NEWS9 and they said there was a storm centralized over Bergholz and it was heading to Hammondsvillle within minutes the rain started pounding down." Fire fighters rushed to Saline and Tice Street in Irondale, where the severe weather was causing massive flooding, and threatening local homes.

Gene Tanleys home was flooded and described what the flooding looked like, "It was just like being in a boat more or less with all that water coming down both sides of my house.

For hours overnight, crews dug trenches to redirect the water to the nearby creek. Tuesday road crews cleared the mud and debris left behind. As for what caused the flooding, officials say part of the problem had to deal with clogged sewage drains.
