A woman desperately tried to save her northwest Harris County home after a car parked next door caught on fire Friday morning, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Firefighters said the blaze ignited in a parked car and quickly spread to the home on Lileux Road and Gears Road.

The homeowner said she ran outside and saw a car burning shortly after hearing an explosion at about 2 a.m. She told authorities she tried to put the fire out herself.

"As soon as she came out and saw the fire, she called the fire department and she just got out. The fire spread fast. Within 15 minutes, she told me that the whole house was in flames," said the homeowner's friend, Miguel Torres.

Several volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital and treated for heat exhaustion. The firefighter is expected to be OK.

The homeowner was not injured.

Authorities have not yet determined what sparked the fire.
