Dozens of Concord firefighters responded to a brush fire that started near Old Charlotte Road and Corban Avenue.

According to fire officials, excavation crews were using a backhoe to dig a hole. They said the crews were using a piece of equipment to cut the pipe and a spark ignited the dry brush in the nearby woods.

Firefighters said the fire started at about 11 a.m. Wednesday. They said the fire spread into a nearby building, Ken's Welding Steel Service and continued across the railroad tracks.

Officials said four different fire stations were called out to fight the blaze. They said most of the fire is out, but they are monitoring the area for hot spots.
