New York Firefighters Perform Agressive Search In Three Alarm Blaze

One woman was found dead

ENDICOTT, N.Y. Firefighters who found the body of a woman in a Binghamton-area house this morning initially feared there may have been more victims.

Authorities say 45-year-old Shari Scolpino's body was discovered in a living room of the house in Endicott after a three-alarm blaze that was reported just before three a-m.

Neighbors told fire officials a child and a man may have been inside the home.

Firefighters mounted an aggressive search and rescue operation in the building, searching bedrooms -- including one filled with toys -- for others who may not have made it out.

Around six o'clock this morning, a man described as Scolpino's boyfriend rushed up to firefighters after hearing news reports about the blaze. He told officials he'd been spent the night elsewhere and that his children who sometimes stayed in the Endicott home were safe.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
