STATESVILLE, N.C. --

Investigators are working to learn what caused a vacant warehouse to catch fire in Statesville on Monday evening.

They believe children that witnesses saw running from the scene around 6 p.m. may be to blame. The youngsters are being interviewed, but so far no charges have been filed.

The former Built-Right Chair Company on Connor Street still had some wicker chairs and seat cushions inside, despite closing 20 years ago. It took firefighters more than two hours to get the blaze under control.

The building had recently been bought by another company, but now most of it is destroyed. Investigators estimate the damage at about $100,000.
