Massachusetts Firefighters Battle Four-Alarmer

One person may have died in the blaze.

Brookline firefighters responded to a four-alarm blaze in the area of St. Mary's Street and Commonwealth Avenue early Friday in which one person may have been killed.

There was no word on how the fire started at 49 St. Mary's St., an off-campus apartment building that houses Boston University students.

NewsCenter 5's Steve Lacy reported that the firefighters got the call about 6 a.m. Friday. Fire crews from Brookline were assisted by crews from Boston, Cambridge and Newton. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was centered in the third and fourth floors of the apartment building. The area is full of apartments populated mostly by university students.
