The below-freezing temperatures put a damper on crews trying to put out an early-morning house fire Monday.
The fire started at about 3 a.m. in the 4900 block of Woodsend Road in Okolona, WLKY NewsChannel 32 reported.
The blaze began in the attic and the people living in the home got out safely. A frozen fire hydrant made things difficult for firefighters to put out the flames.
"We had a good, mild winter so far, but we just had this last freeze which froze that hydrant up there," Okolona Fire Department Capt. Ed Dunagan said. "What we had to do was lay off to another hydrant, which caused a delay in bringing this fire under control."
It's not clear what caused the blaze.
Louisville firefighters also battled two apartment fires early Monday morning. One person was taken to an area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, WLKY reported.
