Firefighters and police officers in Troy, along with deputies from Miami County, were honored Friday morning as unsung heroes.

Students attending Van Cleve Sixth-Grade School in Troy sponsored a breakfast and a special assembly for the local heroes.

All of them were presented with gifts and copies of poems that students wrote. One of the poems referred to the local safety forces as the heart and soul of America.
