Investigators said the couple was using a fireplace overnight and a blaze sparked out of control.

Two people died Monday in an early-morning fire, according to authorities.

Myron McGee, 86, and his 85-year-old wife, Hilda McGee, died in the incident, officials said.

The fire occurred on Griffin Road at about 12:30 a.m.

Investigators said the couple was using a fireplace overnight and a blaze sparked out of control.

The home had a working smoke detector, but it didn't provide enough warning for the couple to get out of the house in time, authorities said.
