Former River Rouge Fire Chief Dave Chirillo spent the night at Wyandotte's Henry Ford Hospital Thursday with bruised ribs, among other injuries, Local 4 reported.

Chirillo was allegedly beaten by two men who used to work for him, police said. Chirillo identified them as firefighters. One of the men was also a former River Rouge City Council member, police said.

Chirillo attended a pension board meeting at River Rouge City Hall Thursday night. After the meeting, Chirillo and a few other men retired to the River Rouge Bar and Grille, police said.

Around 2 a.m. two men reportedly invited Chirillo to breakfast.

Current River Rouge Police and Fire Chief Robert Alderman said he and other officers found Chirillo on the ground near the restaurant. Alderman said Chirillo had injuries to his head and ribs and was having trouble breathing.

"We don't have room in our city for the assaults in the first place, but to have some of our firefighters get into involvements like this we have to hold them to a higher standard," Alderman said.

Chirillo is recovering at home, and Alderman said he expects charges to be filed on Monday.
