A worker was rescued Tuesday morning after getting stuck in a deep hole at an Elverta construction site.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were called to the site at Elverta Road and Elmont Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. after the 18-year-old man fell into a 35-foot-deep dry well intended for a septic tank.
A firefighter was lowered into the hole, which was only about 3 feet wide. The firefighter tethered the victim to himself and the two were raised out of the hole.
The victim, who was not immediately identifed, was said to be in good spirits, but complained of some leg and back pain. He was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center to be examined.
Officials said when the man fell in, he bumped into the sides of the hole all the way down. He landed on his knees.
Officials said the hole did not contain any water.
