Las Vegas, NV (April 5, 2006) - Cygnus Business Media, a leading diversified business-to-business media company, announced today that David Paulison will keynote the upcoming EMS EXPO, co-located with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians' (NAEMT) annual meeting and Firehouse Las Vegas. The combined events will be held September 25 - 29, 2006 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Paulison, a former paramedic and chief of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, replaced former FEMA Director Michael Brown following Hurricane Katrina and currently serves as secretary of Emergency Preparedness and Response and acting director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"Director Paulison is uniquely qualified to speak to this group based on his more than three decades of working in the emergency services field," says Robert Brice, group show director. "He knows first hand the responsibility that goes with being a First Responder and the challenges associated with disaster preparedness and response."

Paulison served previously as administrator for the U.S. Fire Administration. He has served in the field for more than 30 years as a certified paramedic. He is the former chief of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, one of the largest metropolitan areas on the east coast and oversaw the Miami-Dade Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. He was directly involved in search, rescue and emergency response for Hurricane Andrew and ValuJet Flight 592 which crashed into the Everglades in 1996.

"Training and communication are key components to any emergency preparedness plan," says Dave Caplin, EMS EXPO Show Manager. "This event is the first-of-its-kind that brings together professionals in both the EMS and fire service sectors. Critical training and education will be geared toward building a foundation on communication."

In his keynote presentation, Paulison will speak about the response to Hurricane Katrina, FEMA's role in disaster response, and the importance of disaster preparedness at the local, federal and national levels. Following the keynote, Kenneth Bouvier, outgoing NAEMT president and New Orleans paramedic, will look at New Orleans' EMS one year after Hurricane Katrina: what happened, where it is now, and plans for the future.

Firehouse Las Vegas is co-located with EMS EXPO, the nation's leading emergency medical services trade show and conference that attracts thousands of EMS professionals annually. Together, Firehouse Las Vegas and EMS EXPO will be the most significant event of its kind, serving both the fire and emergency medical services markets. The co-located event will rotate with EMS EXPO each year, with the 2006 program scheduled for September 25 - 29 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
