A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze on Detroit's west side on Monday morning.

Fire crews were on the second floor of a three-story house on Elm Street, near Trumbull, when the floor collapsed, Local 4 reported.

"A rapid intervention team immediately grabbed their tools, ran in and they cut him out of the rubble," said Chief James McBroom of the Detroit Fire Department. "We didn't know if we had people missing. We had to take a head count outside."

The firefighter who was injured was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital. He was expected to recover.

The fire was extinguished at the abandoned house, according to Local 4. The cause of the blaze is not known.
