Separate Fires Destroy Townhouse, Business in Hawaii

A fire broke out at a townhouse just after 11 p.m. Saturday on Mikohu Street in Ewa Beach, fire officials said.

The blaze started in the upstairs unit before working its way to the bottom unit, investigators said.

Fire investigators said a discarded cigarette is to blame.

No injuries were reported.

Damage is estimated at $230,000.

Also Saturday night, Big Island fire officials are investigating a fire that destroyed a furniture store.

Flames ripped through the store on Kameha-Meha Avenue in Hilo.

Officials said the fire started in a pile of discarded boxes outside the furniture store and quickly spread through the business.

Damages are estimated at $20,000.
