Fire investigators believed lightning sparked the fire.

Firefighters spent much of Monday trying to make sure a wildfire didnt jump State Road 50 in Brevard County.

The fire has burned hundreds of acres since Sunday night. Officials repeatedly closed and re-opened 50, due to the flames and thick smoke. Firefighters also set a 200-acre back burn to blacken the area along the roadway. Its a measure they hoped would prevent the main fire from blowing over the road and toward the Great Outdoors RV resort, which was under a voluntary evacuation Sunday night.

Fire investigators believed lightning from Sundays pop-up storms sparked the fire. But the weather was helping them a bit Monday. The winds were blowing away from the populated areas of Titusville and I-95.

Firefighters believed at least 1,200 acres have burned since Sunday.
