An apartment tenant who placed a blanket over his pet iguana and its heat lamp has been blamed for sparking a massive fire that destroyed several complex units, according to Local 6 News.
Orlando firefighters responded to flames Wednesday at Oakwood Apartments located at 4601 Holly Branch Drive and Olive Branch Road.
"It just burst into flames," resident Toni Bristow said. "It was scary to not know and the next minute everything had burst into flames."
A fire official quickly determined the cause of the fire once everyone was evacuated.
"Apparently, a resident on a second floor had a pet iguana inside a glass tank and because of the cold weather last night, put a blanket over it," Local 6 reporter Chris Trenkmann said. "And, a heating lamp on top set the tank on fire."
Flames quickly shot into the attic of the complex and damaged several units.
There were no injuries in connection with the fire.
