Two fires just hours apart have destroyed two homes and left three families homeless on Sunday.
Nearly 30 firefighters battled to bring a fire on Lumikuke Loop in Crestview under control. Within 20 minutes, the blaze was contained, but 70 percent of the wooden house was destroyed.
A woman living in the home, as well as her two tenants who lived in a unit off the garage, are now homeless. They are being taken care of by the Red Cross. None of them were home at the time of the fire.
Across town in Niu Valley, firefighters were called to a home on Halemaumau Street close to 4 a.m.
Neighbors told KITV they were shocked by how fast the fire spread from the carport into the front of the house.
Crystal Cook lives in the house with her sister and parents, Carl and Janice Cook. Crystal and her sister were out when the fire started.
Firefighters were amazed that Mr. And Mrs. Cook were able to escape.
No smoke alarm sounded, but Mr. Cook wanted to check on his daughter and went to the garage area where he discovered the fire.
