A Hurricane Katrina evacuee and her family are among nearly two dozen people left homeless after an early-morning apartment fire in Dallas.
Flames were seen shooting out of a second-story roof at the Oasis Park Apartments on the 3000 block of East Ledbetter when firefighters arrived at about 4 a.m.
The evacuee was at a neighbor's apartment when her son called to say he selled smoke. The woman told her child to get out of the apartment immediately.
"I mean my daughter ... she don't have any clothes, we don't have any food, we don't have money and everything is gone. We've just been through enough. We just don't have nothing," said Angela Watts, fire victim.
The three-alarm fire displaced 19 adults and two children who will now receive assistance from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and there were no known injuries.
