On Tuesday night, two firefighters encountered problems with their breathing equipment battling a fire on Summit Street, KSAT 12 News reported.
The incident is the latest in a series of problems the city's fire department has had since it began using the Interspiro self-contained breathing apparatus last summer.
The department has investigated several of the incidents, where firefighters experienced a loss of air during their work.
In one incident, a fireman was forced to jump out of a window when he couldn't breath.
The San Antonio City Council recently approved the purchase of new gear, and a $2 million contract was awarded last week to municipal emergency services.
The department will be supplied with 443 SCBAs manufactured by Scott, one of the top suppliers of firefighting equipment.
Fire crews spent some time Wednesday getting fitted for the new gear.
The new gear should be delivered to firefighters in early June.
