Ashley, Pennsylvania Firefighters Praised for Efforts

HANOVER TWP. -- The commissioners recognized three Ashley Borough firefighters at Monday nights meeting.

In honor of Emergency Services Month, the commissioners presented proclamations to Lt. Joseph McGlynn, and firefighters Dave Fedorczyk and Gary Fedorczyk. The three attempted to save 4-year-old Angela Kriton from an early-morning house fire Jan. 10 at her familys home at 249 Ridge St. in Hanover Township. Her family had been evacuated, but she died before the firefighters could reach her.

It was a tough situation, said Hanover Township Fire Chief Stanley Browski. They did everything they could.

In other business, the commissioners:

Appointed Parente Randolph Accountants & Consultants to provide audit services for the year ending Dec. 31.

Approved a payment of $26,614 to Berwick Chevrolet Inc. for the purchase of a 2005 GMC Sierra 4WD crew cab truck. A state grant will cover 70 percent of the cost.

Authorized the secretary to prepare bid specifications for the purchase of 25,000 gallons of unleaded fuel and 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

Approved a request by the Hanover Area Little League allowing it to use the Hanover Green firehouse for monthly meetings.
