LOS ANGELES --

A third-alarm fire gutted a warehouse in the City Terrace area of the county Friday and left a firefighter with burns to his arms, shoulders and back, authorities said.

Firefighters were sent to the 3700 block of Medford Street about 5:25 a.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher Andrea Hawkins.

The firefighter suffered burns to about 20 percent of his body and was listed in stable condition at a hospital, said county fire Inspector Sam Padilla.

The flames, which burned through the roof of the structure, were extinguished in about 90 minutes, a dispatcher said. More than 50 firefighters worked to douse the flames and prevent them from spreading to other buildings.

Investigators sought to determine the cause of the fire.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
