WILMINGTON, Del.-- A family of three was displaced and one firefighter was injured during a house fire in Wilmington this afternoon.
Heavy fire and smoke was coming from the second floor of a home in the first block of 6th Avenue when firefighters arrived at 3:34 p.m., agency spokesman Capt. George Merrill III said.
Two people escaped the fire unharmed, but firefighter Capt. Richard Lamb injured his knee and was taken to Wilmington Hospital for treatment.
A child was not home at the time of the fire.
The American Red Cross has been called in to assist the family with housing and other needs, Merrill said.
The fire is under investigation.
