Ohio Woman Tosses Grandson Out Window To Escape Fire

The Akron Fire Department is investigating a blaze that nearly killed a woman and her grandson Friday night, NewsChannel reported.

Officials said the fire started in the basement of their home on South Walnut Street.

The grandmother, Hattie Hammond, said she had to throw her grandchild from a second-floor window to save him. A good Samaritan was below to catch the boy.

The grandmother then jumped to safety.

The two were treated at the scene.
