Firefighters rescued a 1-year-old boy from a burning Detroit home Thursday night.

The mother and four of her children were able to escape a fire in the two-family, two-story home located at Virginia Park and Byron streets on the city's west side, Local 4 reported. The mother told firefighters one of her children was still in the house.

The toddler was found in the upstairs of the home by firefighters, Local 4 reported. He was safely returned to his mother.

The furnace for the family who lives upstairs was not working, Local 4 learned. They used a wood-burning stove, which is believed to have gone out of control and set the upstairs on fire, the station reported.
