Ten Firehouses Selected As 'Spruce Up' Contest Winners

The remodeled results will be revealed to the departments' communities in June.

In April, 20 firehouses in 10 cities were chosen as finalists for the Maxwell House/HGTV "Spruce Up Your Firehouse" contest.

Each department submitted a photo essay in March explaining why their firehouse is in need of a makeover and photos of what needs the most help.

From the finalists, there was one winner from each of the 10 cities, which included: Atlanta, Buffalo, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Orlando, Philadelphia, Tampa and Washington, D.C.

The winners of the contest, announced May 22, receive $10,000 and help from Kristan Cunningham, host of HGTV's "Design on a Dime" show. The remodeled results will be revealed to the departments' communities in June.

Here are the ten winning firehouses:

Atlanta, Georgia
Roswell Fire Department

The department plans to focus on their kitchen, replacing counter tops, cabinet doors and appliances. They also want to have an efficient coffee station

Buffalo, New York
Tonawanda Fire Department

Members of the department wish to have more organized workshop. They want proper storage, a grinding wheel and an area to paint and stencil tools. They also plan to use their winnings for a work bench, a combination bulletin/dry erase board and other items.

Chicago, Illinois
Maywood Fire Department

This fire crew wants a redone lounge with updated furniture, electronics and esthetics.

Cincinnati, Ohio
Miami Joint Fire & Rescue

The department sees the station
