Officials said weather played a part in containing a hillside fire in Jefferson County on Tuesday morning.
The hillside, on Township Road 376, gave neighbors quite a scare when power lines came down and caught part of the hillside on fire.
Officials said Monday night's heavy rains and whipping winds made the dirt of an already-unsteady hillside extra soft, causing it to give way.
Just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters responded to a transformer fire on the hillside after dirt slipped and a telephone poll snapped.
About two hours later, live wires came down and sent a large section of the hillside up in flames.
Fire officials said the wet ground helped the fire self-extinguish without much assistance from firefighters.
American Electric Power crews assisted the Pottery Addition and Pleasant Hill fire departments, cutting off power to the lines while the firefighters worked.
No one was hurt in the fire.
