HOUSTON --

A two-alarm fire at a north Houston apartment complex destroyed nearly two-dozen units on Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston firefighters found flames shooting from the roof when they responded to the blaze on Northborough Drive near Forest Edge Drive at about 8:40 a.m.

Crews said the fire spread quickly through the building's common attic.

Twenty units were destroyed, officials said.

A storm was passing through the area when the fire broke out, and authorities said they believe lightning is to blame.

"You saw a big flash of light and just like this loud boom," resident Monte Johnson said. "The vibration from it was so hard it set all the car alarms off."

"In this type of weather, that's always a possibility," Assistant Chief Omero Longoria said.

A firefighter injured his hand while battling the blaze, officials said. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.

No residents were injured.

The apartment managers relocated the fire victims to vacant units at the complex.
