Columbus firefighters are asking for help in finding whoever deliberately set two separate fires early Wednesday morning at Hilton Mobile Home Estates.
Fire Marshal Greg Lang said the fires were deliberately set at a vacant mobile home and in a Dumpster in the K section at the mobile home park at 901 Joy Road. Lang said the landlord had given notice to residents that they were to move by Oct. 1, and the water service was cut off in that section Tuesday afternoon.
When firefighters arrived early Wednesday, debris blocked the roadway, and the firefighters and some of the residents had to move debris before the fire trucks could get near the fires.
"We're concerned about it not becoming another Mockingbird," Lang said, referring to the numerous arson fires earlier this year at Mockingbird Mobile Home Park at 3751 Cusseta Road.
Lang estimates that 20-25 of the mobile homes in Hilton's K section are still occupied.
Lang said firefighters are concerned about compromising the department's ability to fight fires in other parts of the city when they're occupied at Hilton.
Anyone with information about who set the fires this week should call 653-3520, Lang said.
