Four San Jose firefighters sustained minor injuries Thursday while extinguishing a two-alarm house fire in the eastern foothills near Alum Rock Park.

Capt. Alberto Olmos said the fire caused about $950,000 in damage to the approximately 2,500-square-foot house. It was not immediately known what caused the fire, which is still under investigation.

One of the injured firefighters suffered second degree burns to her right forearm, two experienced heat exhaustion and one a severely twisted ankle.

The fire at 3959 Sophist Drive was first reported at 9:31 a.m. and was under control at 11:14 a.m.

A total of 40 San Jose fire personnel responded to the scene, along with 21 fire fighters from the California Department of Forestry & Fire and one helicopter.
