A grass fire that prompted the evacuation of a subdivision continued to burn on the South Side on Thursday afternoon.
The fire at one point came within 100 yards of some homes near the 9700 block of Somerset Road.
No injuries were reported.
San Antonio District Fire Chief Randy Jenkins said windy weather was giving firefighters problems in dousing the fire, which was put out twice before flaring up again.
At least 15 fire trucks and five brush trucks were on the scene, Jenkins said.
A helicopter from the Texas Forestry Service was dumping buckets of water on the fire.
A seperate blaze came about 200 yards away from Clear Springs Elementary School and the main Post Office on Perrin-Beitel Road, but no evacuations were ordered.
The fire, which started burning at 11 a.m., scorched tall, dry grass near a ravine.
Some residents whose homes bordered the brush prepared themselves by taking out their garden hoses.
"It's gotten pretty close," said Mary Chiel, a homeowner. "The winds changed direction at times, so hopefully it's going the other way."
The fire was reported to be under control around 12:30 p.m., fire officials said.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the San Antonio area Thursday afternoon, as winds are forecast to blow from 20 to 30 mph.
